A textile artist and fashion researcher born in Baguio, Philippines, whose political consciousness emerged in the American South and is now based in Toronto, Bianca immerses herself in creative reckonings with the legacies of American imperialism in her homeland.
Translating encounters of text and textile as she works across garment mending, repurposed fabric, historical/archival research, creative writing, hand/machine sewing, and Philippine weaving traditions, Bianca aims to scorch holes in the manipulative narratives imposed onto her people's psyche, such as obligatory gratitude to "benevolent" oppressors, pride in aligning with the ruling class, and state-sanctioned historical distortion by authoritarian regimes. Channeling lifetimes of suppressed grief and rage, Bianca hopes to transform fear into fervor while maintaining an open heart and unapologetic curiosity to question material conditions and accepted norms as she unearths the history of her people for a future of generational healing.
With the artist collective habi habi po, Bianca coordinated workshops for Filipino/a/x artists and presented solo work at Unravelling (2025), habi habo po’s exhibit at Gallery 101. She shared textile knowledge through her research and writing in the zines maghabi magkatabi (2024) and habilin (2025). Bianca’s writing is also featured in the Fashion and Race Database, C Magazine, Hamilton Artists Inc., and the Fashion Studies Journal. In addition to organizing community arts-based events like drag and fashion shows in Athens, Georgia, Bianca taught garment mending for From Here to Wear’s slow fashion programming at East End Arts. Bianca holds a Master of Arts in Fashion from Toronto Metropolitan University.
