Suzanne Head

Artist

Suzanne Head is a multi disciplinary artist currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She has notably cultivated a technique in which colored glass powder is sifted onto sheet glass and fired in a kiln. Over multiple firings, Suzanne creates imagery that looks similar to her paintings and drawings, but is entirely made of glass. She was an Emerging Artist in Residence at Pilchuck Glass School in 2023 and was featured on the cover of Glass Art Magazine in 2020. Her work has shown at Bullseye Projects in Portland, Oregon, the Penland Gallery in Penland, NC, and the Society of Illustrators in NYC.

"I make work about the psychological relationships that humans form between themselves, each other, and the nature that surrounds them. Patterns and habits of various animal species narrate an allegorical context for how humans treat one another. Masks and cyclical forms serve as recurring symbols, and allude to our sense of self-identity; our relationship to death; and the infinite connections we inherent from our earth and one another.

Formally, I prioritize classical drawing skills, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of the materials that I use. I often cross disciplines and uncover harmonies between technological innovation and ancient hand techniques. Rooted in tradition, these materials and practices sustain a connection to our collective memory and the organic world."
