My name is Desiree Scarborough, and I’m an Artist and Fashion Designer from Brooklyn, NY. My passion for traveling, the intricacies of architecture and nature, and world history greatly influence what I create. When I travel, I spend hours exploring cities on my own, capturing photos of things that inspire me, and sketching and writing ideas for new projects in a mini sketchbook. I’ll also take guided walking tours to learn more about the history and culture, which helps round out my ideas and spark new questions.

My work speaks to folks who want to see sustainable art that can also be multi-functional. Art that can transform, exist on a wall, and be worn as an embellishment. When creating, I enjoy letting the materials speak to me. I gather supplies from a variety of sources, including pieces of metal found at flea markets, paint chips from recycling bins, and household items from the hardware store. As an artist producing work inspired by the communities I inhabit, I believe it’s essential to incorporate items found in those communities into my creations whenever possible. I believe incorporating materials from the place where the idea originated adds another layer of connection to that location. Using my ideas to work through the impressions my travels and what I’ve learned about a place have made on me has helped me become a more thoughtful artist.
