Description

Ekundayo is a Nigerian name that means sorrow has become joy. A study of wrapping and balance, created by first quickly wrapping and knotting the fabric around the rock, then drafting a pattern to fit the rock. The silk is then draped back onto the rock and hand pleated and tacked in place. Baby hem edge finishing. The organza tie is braided at the top portion. Made with three layers of wrap, all three are stitched together at the end to create a hold that will not break.

About the Maker

Meet Hope Ngozi Okere

I am Nigerian American, my father immigrated to the US from Nigeria and my mother is from Minnesota. I was born and raised in Iowa but moved to nyc at the age of 20 and lived there for 17 years before moving to the west coast. I grew up with a mix of American culture and influence from my father’s Igbo/ Nigerian culture. I also have a background in modern dance and fashion design; both of which inform my art praxis.
