Description

This series of wearable sculptures reflect on and celebrate the Woman's body as creator and bearer of life, and the divine generative power of her body that enables her to create other human beings. The sequence of poncho-like weavings map my body’s metamorphosis in its various phases of transformation. The sagging, elongated breast points to the body changes that stretches our bodies to extremes as we become shelter and nurturers.

The pieces reflect on the dual contradictory aspects of birthing and motherhood at once celebrating the power of fertility and childbirth and reflecting on current related struggles.

The juxtaposition of caution tape and live plants points to the tension between nature and artifice, spirituality and reproductive technology industry. The caution literally warns us against the effects of pollution and plastic consumption disrupting our body's hormonal balances and its effects on the current rise of (un)fertility; as well as cautioning us and raising a flag about the alarming fact that Black women still have the highest maternal mortality rates in the United States.
